Cat's Cradle
by Sharmagne Leland-St. John
Drenched starlings perch
on a cat's cradle
of telephone wires
strung against pewter skies,
criss-crossing
blackened chimneys.
Oxidation takes its toll.
Rain slicked,
slate rooftops
mirror clouds
dark with winter's
melancholy.
The whisper of wind
no longer comforts.
Alone I sit
on the window seat,
cold and numb.
I have tears,
hold me.
